Sony had to cover their research as well as their development costs and they actually did. The price ticket was set to cover their massive investments in this latest device. Many find it quite reasonable but some are finding it fairly high in a uncertain economy. The cost of the device will establish the final success of the console. The time will only tell what becomes of the new console. Sony might consider lowering the costs if 1st sells aren’t what they were anticipated to be. Their hope is that the device will excite the minds and hearts of their users.
